Act I. Conversion
Story OutlineSong Outlines
    A. David's Conversion
    1. David lives a life without direction, associating with whoever seems exciting
    2. David is brutally beaten by a man he knows, and nearly dies
    3. Srana witnesses the attack, and, remembering her own painful past, begins secretly watching David
    4. He is brought back to health by Father Michael, and is converted to a life of healing
    One Soul
    He explains how and why he became a man of goodness
    1. He describes his confusion
      1. He had never really thought about other people
      2. He began to notice problems but didn't know how to help
    2. He describes his conversion
      1. He meets his master
      2. His soul is transformed, and he is given power to help others
    3. He is no longer confused
      1. He has the ability to help now
      2. He is dedicated to a righteous cause

    B. Sam's Conversion
    1. Sam, the man who attempted to kill David, is a miserable man living a hollow life of decadence
    2. His life gets worse and worse until one day he finds himself homeless and filthy, having spent all his money on worldly pleasures
    3. David finds Sam, forgives him, and helps him change his life
    Someone Strong
    He helps a man and changes that man's life
    1. David discovers a man in need
      1. It is a cold, windy day
      2. A sinful, unhappy man reaches out for help
      3. David helps the man warm his frozen heart
    2. The man is reborn
      1. The man stands tall
      2. His heart has been cleansed

    C. Srana's Conversion
    1. As Srana continues to watch David, she is reminded of her own conversion experience where her master brought her into his group of followers
    2. Her master teaches his followers to destroy evil powers to prevent their influence over weaker people

    She explains how and why she became a follower of darkness

      1. They are miserable

    A. Srana and David fall in love
    1. As Srana has watched David's life, she realizes she has begun to love him
    2. David has sensed her near him and begins to fall in love with her although he hasn't yet met her

    They fall in love without meeting
    1. He senses her watching him
      1. She is unknown and mysterious
      2. He feels her close, but is unable to see her
    2. He senses danger
      1. He feels her dark nature and is afraid
      2. He reaches out to her
      3. He decides to be with her and ignore the danger
    3. He loves her
      1. He describes her dark beauty
      2. He needs to be with her

    B. They meet
    1. Although they are very different, they quickly become devoted to each other
    2. David attempts to draw her to his view of the world as a place where good can triumph in the face of darkness

    He tells her about his perception of the world and it's problems

      1. Pain is compared to bad weather
      2. Both will pass away and reveal beauty
    2. He describes a beautiful day

Act III. Flight

    A. They withdraw from their groups
    1. David makes his decision to leave his group to be with Srana
    2. At the same time, he tells Father Michael they have decided to get married, and asks him to perform their wedding before they go
    3. Srana announces her decision to withdraw from her group
    Sweetest Mary
    He sings of his love for his group, typified by their patron Saint Mary
    1. Mary's Beauty
      1. It takes him away
      2. He describes her physical features
    2. He longs for personal intimacy outside the group
      1. He compares his group to the statue of Mary
      2. He will choose a living woman instead
    3. His world is full of changes
      1. Darkness has entered his life
      2. He knows he has to move on
    4. He asks her forgiveness
      1. He has turned away
      2. He is leaving her

    B. Their flight
    1. Both groups have plotted ways to punish the couple
    2. The couple manages to flee to an underground sanctuary

    Their flight from persecution and the threat of death
    1. They gather their possessions

    2. The groups threaten them with death
      1. They face excommunication from their own groups
      2. David's group will bring Srana to trial for murder
      3. Srana's group plans to execute David
    3. They stand trial
      1. They are captured, tried, and pronounced guilty
      2. With Father Michael's help, they escape
      3. They are persued by angry members of both groups
    4. They flee to her lair
      1. He prays and finds peace
      2. She enters a deep sleep

    C. Their union
    1. While in retreat in Srana's underground cavern, they enter a dreamlike state where their thoughts unite, binding them even more closely together
    2. Upon awaking, they find new energy, and Srana recounts her view of the misery in the world

    During their meditation they experience a union of minds
    1. She comforts him
      1. The darkness soothes him
      2. The silence eases the intensity of his prayers
      3. She watches over him while he dreams
    2. He has a vision of her soul
      1. She is a queen
      2. She is in pain and needs his comfort
      3. He is afraid he can't protect her
    3. They enter a union of minds
      1. He grants her soul a portion of his light
      2. He embraces her dark nature

    She tells him about her perception of the world and it's problems

      1. Feelings of sadness, sorrow, loneliness and despair

Act IV. Death

    A. Srana's Father
    1. Srana becomes increasingly haunted by her painful memories of being abused as a child
    2. Srana locates her father and kills him
    3. David discovers what Srana has done, and although deeply troubled at first, is able to understand her motivations
    Factory Man
    She condemns her father for his crimes and murders him
    1. She describes him
      1. She portrays him as a regular working man
      2. She explains his crimes of spouse and family abuse
      3. He is a miserable man
    2. She pursues him
      1. She confronts him and tells him of his worthlessness
      2. He flees and she follows
      3. She meets him at his house
    3. She murders him
      1. She hypnotizes him
      2. She tears his body apart
      3. She takes flight

    B. Sam and Srana
    1. Srana learns that Sam is the man who had nearly killed David years before, and vows to kill him
    2. David comes to meet Srana and finds her just as she murders Sam
    3. He realizes that he believes Srana to be hopelessly evil, and when they arrive for their wedding, he stakes her heart
    When You Love
    Finally realizing that Srana is evil, David kills her
    1. In her cavern lair
      1. He arrives to meet her
      2. He finds her with Sam
      3. He pleads with her to spare him, but is too late
    2. In the chapel
      1. They arrive for their wedding
      2. He prepares to kill her
      3. She pleads for her life, but he stakes her heart
    3. In the graveyard
      1. He arrives in a desolate part of the graveyard
      2. He prepares her for burial
      3. He lowers her into the ground

    C. David
    1. After killing Srana, David is so miserable and confused he loses faith in all his values and beliefs
    2. David commits suicide to be with Srana, although he believes that in doing so he has further condemned his own soul
    3. Together again, Srana and David rejoice in their union, but exist in a state of eternal damnation
    Eternal Life
    Miserable, he commits suicide to be with her
    1. He ponders her moral condition
      1. She had a powerful spirit
      2. She used her power to serve darkness
    2. He reflects on her death
      1. He killed her
      2. He regrets that action because it damned both of them
    3. He realizes how awful committing suicide will be
      1. It is painful and miserable
      2. It will condemn him further
      3. It is against God's will
    4. Using a silver dagger, he ends his life
      1. His misery will end with his life
      2. His fate is uncertain

    Together again, they sing of their eternal love
    1. Darkness
      1. Their world is a world of shadow and blindness
      2. They find comfort in being with each other

      1. Their agony is like heat and flame

      2. They believe that they can still save their souls

    1. David descends into hades and finds Srana there where she is being held captive
    2. They journey through hell to reach heaven
    3. They are captured by a guard of angels and put in limbo where they will always remember the mistakes they made

    They journey through hades, hell and heaven
    1. Darkness/Hades
      1. David descends into hades
      2. He seeks out Srana and finds her in prison
      3. He uses his power to overcome the guardians and they escape
    2. Fire/Hell
      1. They enter hell and are consumed
      2. Their sins mark them and grant them passage
      3. They encounter a demon who traps them but Srana overcomes the elements of flame with her darkness
    3. Spirit/Heaven
      1. They arrive in heaven and rush to enter, forgetting all their dark deeds
      2. They are captured and put in limbo
